Banksman & Slinger Initial Training

Aim and Objectives:
The aims and objectives of the Initial Training Programme are to provide personnel, who have little are no experience of the Banksman and Slinger role, with the basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities.

The Initial Training Programme allows the learner to demonstrate basic Banksman and Slinger practical skills following instruction and demonstration by the training staff. This Training Programme aims to prepare the learners for the next stage of the progression path to becoming a competent banksman and slinger i.e. supervised workplace experience.

Target Audience:
The target group for the Banksman and Slinger Training is for personnel wishing to become competent in the Banksman and Slinger role.

Learner pre-requisites:
There are no pre-requisites.

Validity:
2 years

Rigger Initial Training

Aim and Objectives:
The aim and objectives of the Initial Training Programme are to provide the learner with knowledge of the rigging principles, general hazards and risks of rigging and lifting operations, an awareness of relevant legislation and regulation, and an opportunity to practice basic rigging operations following a lifting plan. Completion of the workplace experience logbook takes place on-site where personnel will complete workplace requirements under supervision.

Target Audience:
The target group for the Rigger Initial Training programme is personal who have had little or no training or experience in rigging and lifting operations. The workplace experience logbook is for personnel that have successfully completed the Initial training and wish to gain relevant supervised workplace experience that would enable them to undertake the Rigger Competence Assessment.

Learner pre-requisites:
There are pre-requisites for the Rigger Initial Training. To complete the workplace experience logbook, learners must hold a valid approved Rigger Initial Training certificate.

Validity:
The Rigger Initial Training certificate is valid for 2 years.

Confined Space Entry

Aim:
The Confined Space Entry Standard aims to follow on from existing delegate knowledge which introduced delegates to the way in which confined spaces are defined and recognised; the specific regulations and guidelines; hazards; control measures; roles and responsibilities, and testing. The Standard also aims to instruct and assess delegates on the practical skills necessary for confined space entry, including testing and use of appropriate PPE and emergency escape equipment.

Objectives of the Confined Space Entry Standard are that delegates will be able to perform:

  • Atmospheric testing through correct operation of monitoring equipment
  • Hazard identification and dynamic risk assessment
  • Pre use PPE and Equipment checks
  • Don and use of full SCBA
  • Donning & operating (including checks) an escape breathing apparatus (EBA) with a mask and hood prior to egress from a confined space.
  • Using a pressurised cascade breathing system with an activated EBA.
  • Establish and check lines of communication
  • Entry and Egress to and from a confined space
  • Egress from a confined space in an emergency situation

Target Audience:
This training programme is designed for personnel across the energy sector with an existing theoretical understanding and awareness of confined spaces, associated hazards and guidance and require the corresponding practical skills necessary for entry into a confined space.

Delegate pre-requisites:
Delegates must possess a valid Confined Space Awareness certificate.

Validity:
3 years

Authorised Gas Tester

Aim and Objectives:
The aim and objectives of the Authorised Gas Tester training programme is to ensure that personnel preparing for a gas tester role are equipped with the knowledge to conduct gas tests for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely.

This training programme also equips the learner with knowledge to conduct gas testing within confined spaces and awareness of associated confined space hazards.

Learners will also learn about relevant legislative requirements, gas measuring and monitoring equipment and documenting gas test results.

Target Audience:
This programme is designed to meet the initial training and knowledge assessment requirements for personnel preparing to work as Authorised Gas Testers*.

*Note: In the workplace, persons undertaking Standby/Safety Watch duties at the entrance to a confined space shall be an Authorised Gas Tester or an Authorised Gas Monitor.

Learner pre-requisites:
No pre-requisites are required.

Validity:
3 years

Working at Height Essentials (Theory)

Aim and Objectives:

The objectives of the Working at Height Awareness Training Standard are that delegates will be able to understand:

  • Applicable regional legislation and guidelines
  • Hazards associated with working at height
  • Safe systems of work for working at height
  • Different platforms for working at height
  • Different ladders types, safe use and associated hazards
  • Fall prevention measures
  • Fall arrest systems
  • Appropriate structural anchor points, attachment points and work positioning points
  • PPE and associated equipment including pre use inspection
  • Dropped objects
  • Emergency procedures and rescue equipment
